Health and Safety Lion Code short course

 

This is a short course, designed for those whose health and safety awareness is a necessary part of their job. The course is designed to raise safety awareness and covers the most common safety issues found on Poultry Farms.

The course is delivered by a tutor with over 30 years experience of health and safety issues on poultry farms.

Using the delegate’s own experiences of workplace health and safety, the course aims to provide practical tools and knowledge to enable the delegate to carry out their work safely.

This course is fully approved as a Lion Code short course and delegates will receive a Lion Code registered certificate.

Course Content

This Lion Code approved short course is aimed at Egg Collectors, Egg graders on farm, Senior Egg collectors, Stock persons, Assistant Managers, Managers and Owners. The course is interactive and can be delivered face to face or online with “live” contact with tutor

 

 

  • Roles & responsibilities - legal and organisational

  • Reporting of inadequate control measures and corrective actions

  • Health hazards of poultry dust

  • Types of PPE inc. storage, usage, inspection and replacement

  • Notices and written notices, inc. warning signs

  • Fire and emergency procedures (inc. fire extinguisher recognition)

  • Machinery safety

  • Electrical safety

  • Site security

  • Site traffic movement (inc. child safety)

  • Lone working

  • Noise

  • WRULD and repetitive strain injury

  • Working at heights

  • 1st Aid and 1st Aiders

  • Manual Handling - principles and practice

  • End of course assessment

 

 

Delegates completing the course will receive a Lion Code approved course certificate and be registered on their Lion codes training record.

Poultry Health and Welfare Lion Code short course

Band 3

 

This is a short course, designed for those whose knowledge and skill in Poultry Health and welfare  is a necessary part of their job. The course is designed to raise awareness and covers the most common Poultry Health and Welfare  issues found on Poultry Farms.

The course is delivered by a tutor with over 30 years experience of Poultry Health and Welfare  issues on poultry farms.

Using the delegate’s own experiences of workplace health and safety, the course aims to provide practical tools and knowledge to enable the delegate to carry out their work in line with lion code and other welfare legislation.

This course is fully approved as a Lion Code short course and delegates will receive a Lion Code registered certificate.

Course content

This Lion Code approved short course is aimed at Chargehand, Assistant Manager, Supervisor, Manager, Owner-manager on farm. The course is interactive and can be delivered face to face or online with “live” contact with tutor

  • History of Poultry Welfare

  • Legislative requirements,

  • Codes of Practice,

  • Lion Code, Lion Passport and Industry Standards

  • Equipment required to maintain bird welfare/enrichment

  • Emergency procedures (fire, flood or disease (inc. Notifiable Disease)

  • Monitoring of Environmental and Litter conditions

  • Awareness of Five Freedoms

  • Identification of normal and abnormal behaviour

  • Accommodation

  • Range Management and Predator Control*

  • Monitoring of provision of Feed and Water

  • Identification of birds that require culling

  • Record Keeping

  • Bird Handling (intake/depletion)

  • Causes of stress in poultry

  • Identification of Poultry diseases and specific control measures

  • Identification of birds that require treatment/placing in hospital pen

  • Salmonella control and Salmonella sampling techniques

  • The Role of the Veterinary Surgeon & The Vet health Plan

  • Pest and parasite detection and control

  • Record Keeping, including biosecurity checks and visitors book

  • Management of hospital pen

  • Administration and responsible use of vaccines and medication including antimicrobials.

  • Feather scoring & Feather/Injurious Pecking Prevention

The course is delivered by a tutor with over 35 years experience of Food Safety issues on a poultry farm.

Using the delegate’s own experiences of workplace Food Safety the course aims to provide practical tools and knowledge to enable the delegate to carry out their work in line with lion code and other welfare legislation.
